Carbon Steel ANSI 1020-Casting Material

AISI 1020 is one of the very commonly used plain low carbon steels. It has a nominal carbon content of 0.20% with approximately 0.50% manganese. It is a good combination of strength and ductility and may be hardened or carbonized.

Generally AISI 1020 is named in plate or steel bar, you can find it in those standard:
AMS 5032; AMS 5046; AMS 5054; ASTM A29 (1020); ASTM A510 (1020); ASTM A512 (1020, MT 1020); ASTM A513 (MT 1020); ASTM A519 (1020, MT 1020); ASTM A544 (1020); ASTM A575 (M1020); ASTM A576 (1020); ASTM A635 (1020); ASTM A659 (1020); ASTM A787 (MT 1020); ASTM A794 (1020); ASTM A827; ASTM A830; MIL S-11310 (CS 1020); MIL S-16788; MIL S-7952; MIL T-3520; SAE J1397 (1020); SAE J403 (1020); SAE J412 (1020); UNS G10200
In Casting purpose, it’s origined from ASTM A732 1A, IC1020 Standard Specification for Castings, Investment, Carbon and Low Alloy Steel for General Application, and Cobalt Alloy for High Strength at Elevated Temperatures:
C: 0.15-0.25; Mn 0.20-0.60; P 004; S 0.045; Si 0.20-1.00; Cu 0.5, Ni 0.5, Cr 0.35, Mo+Sn 0.25
Mechanical Properties: Tensile 60Ksi(414Mpa), Yield 40Ksi(276MPa), Elongation 24%, Heat treatment Annealed.

In ASTM A29, Standard Specification for Steel Bars, Carbon and Alloy, Hot-Wrought, General Requirements, the chemistry is little different with casting grade 1A.
C: 0.18-0.23; Mn 0.30-0.60; P 0.04; S 0.05;

Sometime, it’s similar with ASTM A216 WCB.
